This statement by Heraclitus still applies today. Change is taking place in many areas of life and at an ever-increasing pace. Many people are finding it increasingly difficult to keep up.
Advances in technology are accompanying change in many areas, such as digitalization, renewable energies and mobility. They also help us to cope with or shape global changes due to new challenges such as changing geopolitical conditions or climate change.
No other industrial sector can do without microelectronics and microsystems technology. The crises of recent years have shown that secure access to hardware in the required quality and quantity is necessary, from standard electronics to innovative approaches. New production capacities are being created in Germany and Europe and are also leading to new challenges in the area of recruiting skilled workers. Unfortunately, as studies by the VDE show, innovation tends to be associated with computer science, while electrical engineering is considered less innovative by students and teachers and is associated with “pulling strings”. This is where our commitment is needed to disprove this reservation with examples. We hope that the Microsystems Technology Congress can contribute to this and provide new impetus.
