How to work with us

Forschung & Entwicklung mit dem Fraunhofer IPMS

With our team of highly qualified experts, we deliver first-class, customized solutions for the entire 200/300 mm micro- and nanoelectronics value chain and promote innovation and sustainability for our customers from laboratory to production.

The following cleanrooms are available for the realization of your projects:

200 mm MEMS/MOEMS: A 1500 m² class 4 ISO 14644-1 cleanroom provides an environment for technology development and pilot manufacturing of micro-electro-mechanical (MEMS) and micro-opto-electro-mechanical systems (MOEMS).

200 mm microdisplay cleanroom: A 300 m² ISO 14644-1 Class 5 cleanroom serves as a pilot line for microdisplays and sensors, with a focus on thin-film encapsulation, patterning and layer characterization.

300 mm CMOS: A 2700 m² ISO 14644-1 class 6 and 3 cleanroom enables development services on 300 mm wafers for microelectronics, including ultra large scale integration, analytics, metrology and characterization.

Cooperation models for industry partners

Direct orders

With clearly defined objectives, we recommend customized developments for your company as part of a direct order. At the end of the project, you are the exclusive user of our research results. Fraunhofer IPMS develops new know-how, demonstrators, prototypes, processes and products in research and development projects together with its partners. This model is aimed at both large companies in the semiconductor industry and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Funded project

Nationally or internationally funded joint projects with large research consortia are ideal for extensive topics. All results of these projects are openly available at the end. We have a lot of experience with national and international applications and offer our support for joint projects in selecting the right funding, application and coordination.

Technology transfer

Our epitaxy and technology expertise is world-leading. We can efficiently transfer processes and recipes developed specifically for you to your company and production facilities.

Licensing

Fraunhofer IPMS offers the possibility to utilize and scale the acquired know-how. By licensing intellectual property, companies in the semiconductor industry and SMEs can quickly and effectively integrate innovative technologies into their own products.

Strategic partnership

We offer comprehensive technical advice and development for the long-term development of technologies. We also support you in the strategic planning of your technology roadmap.

Spin-offs

Fraunhofer IPMS offers support for the creation of new companies to exploit and scale know-how. These spin-offs are ideal for companies in the high-tech sector that want to grow and develop on the basis of new technologies.

Innovation support

Fraunhofer IPMS offers companies consulting, workshops, cleanroom processes, measurements, tests and characterizations. The offer is aimed at "hidden champions" and SMEs that want to improve their innovation processes. These collaborations provide tailor-made solutions to increase innovative capacity and competitive advantages. Partners benefit from the expertise and the latest technologies in semiconductor research and development.

Programs for small and medium-sized enterprises

With "KMU Innovativ", the BMBF offers an open funding program for SMEs that is accessible all year round and covers a wide range of topics.

Our R&D services

© Fraunhofer IPMS
Our R&D services at a glance.

Our development process consists of four key phases that ensure that every idea is effectively implemented from initial validation to production readiness.

1. Idea Validation

In this initial phase, we carry out feasibility studies to assess the viability and potential of your ideas. We examine all relevant aspects to ensure that the basis for further development is solid.

2. Research & Development

Once an idea has been validated, we move on to the research and development phase. Here we develop the necessary materials, processes and equipment. Our focus is on creating innovative and effective solutions that meet the specific requirements of your project.

3. Engineering

In the engineering phase, we scale up the developed technology from prototypes to qualified processes. This includes optimizing and refining the developed solutions to ensure that they can be produced reliably and efficiently on a large scale.

4. Pilot Production

The final phase of our process is pilot production. Here we put the developed and tested processes into practice in order to start production on an industrial scale. In addition, we transfer the necessary knowledge and technology to ensure a smooth and effective production line.

Through this structured development process, we ensure that each idea is systematically and thoroughly developed to meet the highest standards and produce marketable products. Our expertise and experience in each of these steps guarantee the success of your project.
