The Mid-Europe Chapter of the Society for Information Display (SID-MEC) invites you to its second online conference in 2024. Under the title "Applications of Display Technology," experts from the display industry and research institutions will discuss current developments and challenges. The event will take place online on November 26 at 3:00 PM CET and offers a platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas.

The meeting will focus on display applications, highlighting topics such as materials science, interfaces, manufacturing, and applications of displays.

"General developments of display systems for motorcycles"

Motorcycle instrument clusters, especially those from BMW Motorrad, are designed to withstand the toughest environmental conditions encountered outdoors. Given their 100% outdoor usage, these instruments are a benchmark in readability, ensuring that riders can easily see all essential information even in harsh weather and varying light conditions. However, as four-wheeler OEMs push forward with advanced, pillar-to-pillar displays, motorcycle brands like BMW Motorrad can no longer rely on adapting display panels from their automotive counterparts. This shift requires the development of specialized, standalone display systems tailored specifically for motorcycles.

"µLED for high-brightness (micro-)displays for future HUD & HMD applications"

Since 2018, he has been pioneering advancements in microLED technology—both in the lab and in business—to drive impactful solutions for high-brightness microdisplays. His work centers around the potential of microLEDs to meet the demanding requirements of future HUD (Head-Up Display) and HMD (Head-Mounted Display) applications.

In this talk, he will delve into the importance of innovation that addresses real-world challenges, as this approach is key to creating meaningful industry impact. He’ll offer an industry perspective on the evolution of microLED technology, providing insights into the critical challenges that still need to be tackled. His discussion will focus on areas of performance and manufacturability, essential for realizing microLED microdisplays that are not only high-performing but also commercially viable.

"The truth of AR in service & maintenance. 10 years of insights into our journey from Fraunhofer spin-off to scale-up company"

The presentation will provide an in-depth overview of the various use cases and business cases for Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR), with a focus on applications in maintenance and service. We'll explore the current barriers to widespread adoption of these technologies, as well as the future potential they hold. Real-world customer examples will showcase what's possible today, while a look into oculavis' R&D projects will offer insights into emerging innovations and what to expect moving forward.
