Cebit / TeleHealth 2009
March 5 - 6, 2009 in Hannover
Hall 9 Stand C93
The Fraunhofer IPMS carries out customer specific developments in fields of microelectronic and micro systems technology in Dresden, serving as a business partner that supports the transition of innovative ideas into new products. The Fraunhofer IPMS develops and fabricates modern CMOS technology products in its own clean room facilities, up to small pilot series production. With modern equipment and about 200 scientists, the range of projects and expertise covers sensor and actuator systems, micro scanner, spatial light modulators, lifetronics and organic materials and systems.
At the Cebit / Tele Health Show 2009 (Hall 9 Stand C93) the Fraunhofer IPMS presents:
Physical training in spite of heart failures
Physical training is very important for people suffering from heart failures. But how far can they go? Is it possible for those people to take exercises without being afraid to overstress and to have another heart attack?
In order to learn more about one's current constitution the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems, Fraunhofer IPMS, developed an easy to use solution: the system SYSvital.
The basic unit is worn on the body at all times and measures and records movements and heart rate (ECG). By virtue of its very small and lightweight design, it does not interfere with the patient's daily activities. Minimum and maximum heart rate, ST changes and artial fibrillations are determined within the unit, which is about the size of a deck of playing cards. The patient's movement is recorded and classified in real time. Due to the combination of the individual measurements, the diagnosis can be improved significantly. For example, the heart rate can be assessed according to the level of physical exertion. In the same manner, the recovery time following physical activity can also be ascertained. Via the Home gateway, this data is transferred to an Internet portal, where a physician can access the file and provide the patient with appropriate information about her or his physical condition or about irregularities in the ECG.
Operation of the unit is very simple. In order to increase the patient's sense of security, the system can also be augmented with additional components to measure blood pressure, weight and blood sugar levels. The patient can now climb the next mountain without having to worry about having another heart attack.
